Day 2
(Careful for spoilers)
Im will be reviewing a new movie 2014's Oscar nominee and winner!
Birdman: or ( the unexpected virture of ignorance)
Birdman: or ( the unexpected virture of ignorance)
For starters I knew one thing about this film before watching, it had Michael Keaton in it. Which in the 1980s was gold but now in 2015 who knows what he will bring. Will he may bring comedic joy like in the other guys or will he warm our hearts like in Mr. Mom.
Full disclosure: I confuse micahel keaton and kevin costner all the time. I have no idea why, but I do. So ya. That.
Oscar nominated, Birdman brings alot of stars but from different acting specialties. Zach Galifinakis: the goofball, Edward norton: the all around, and Emma Stone : the young female all around. Im not defining these actors and actress, what I am saying is birdman gave each actor a chance to show that they can be serious and dark.
The most powerful part of Birdman for me wasn't actually the story (becuz there are so many in one movie) it was the 1 shot style. Birdman seamlessly take the audience through the whole movie in 1 continuously moving shot. It is never clear that there are edited scenes, but when there are, it could have easily been a sped up shot which was originally 8 hours long (night to day) and no one could tell the difference.
Legnthy summary
As stated before there is not one story there are many. Our lead Riggian thomson (michael keaton) has one goal: moving on in this world after his famed role "birdman". As we all know it it tough adapting to change, riggian has to deal with his career, his daughter, and for a short time possibly being a new father( or does he ;) ). He cant handle the change so he descends into madness having his previous role haunt him into rage. He must deal with this play (which btw is never clear to me what that play is about) being his magnum opus. If he fails THIS will be his legacy.
Personal thoughts
Okay. What? Seriously he is stoned right? You jumped off a building!? Which btw was predictable since edward norton told his daughter to do it twice before.

Even with our lead taking focus, all subsequent stories defer your attention(Early on). I personally enjoyed the BALLZ of edward norton. He truly made me believe that his character was a famous actor horndog. He is even bold enough to do a nude shot to show how he is in control of the show.
I dont normally do this but this movie needed more cursing! We have a character who is descending to madness, around real stuck up actors, and we are to believe that he has enough self control to curse the same amount as an action movie and not south park? I find it hard to believe....
Oh that ending...
Where it succeeds: the one shot. I love a one shot scene not so much a movie. But this time I was impressed! Also the acting. All actors kept their characters even while in the middle of time square walking half naked. CGI. Wow. Just wow. Was birdman real or what!? Seamless added to 1 shot this CGI puts avatar to shame (granted 5 years later).
Where it fails: Every scene with emma stone seems to linger and lag longer then it should. There are moments when it stares at her face for 5 whole seconds. Another failure is making me care. I was never invested in any character other than riggian. I understand he is the main character, but I would hope other great performances would make me care about the character and it didnt. Im going to be honest I didnt care so much that edward norton and emma stones balcony fun of "truth or dare" didnt keep me engaged, In Fact! I was texting and making plans for breakfast while watching. It was just that dull.
There is much more to say about this film but ive got to make a verdict. (Possible edit)
Final Verdict: I give it a 8/10 with a "highly recommend buy"..... recommendation. Lol. This movie beautifully merged 1 shot acting with CGI without missing a bit. I honestly want to watch it again just to see what I may have missed. Dont watch it for the story...watch it for the acting and the directing. If you are an oscar fan (I am not) then you will want to watch this 2014 best picture which truely earned its place above the rest.
I know this review is choppy and ranty but this movie requires more evaluation then I am giving it.
