Summer movie challenge day 5

Day 5
(Careful for spoilers)
Delivery man

(I dont believe in this film so read as much as you'd like)

Final verdict: I give this movie a 5.5/10. A "if you'd like to" rent. This was not a bad movie. It was to serious to be a comedy but so simple it couldnt be a drama. With those opposing factors, its not all that memorable. So if you want to watch it, catch it on cable, cause its nothing special.

Where it successed The title is a pun. He delivers meat and offspring.
Chris Pratt was an excellent friend countering Vince. The introduction of Vinces plan to meet his kids was good and entertaining but after kid 5 loses its luster.

They managed to get 3 big name celebrities Vince Vaughn. Colbie Smulders and Chris Pratt

Where it fails Its not all thay memorable or relatable.  How many of us have been to a sperm donors offices? How many have donated enough for 500+ kids....not alot id bet. The overall story is bland. I could have made this a better film, but not by much. It failed to make the audience care. We should cry when he meets his kids. There was no quotable moments or scenes which make you like this movie. Even crap can be infamous. And some would say infamy is better than nothing.

My version
So first i would Role Reversal chris pratt. He should be the david wisneiak( the lead)  and Vince Vaughn should be the best friend married guy (like he was in old school). Imagine! Lovable goofy Chris Pratt as a father of alot of kids! Whoa! Also I would reduce 500+ to 10 or even 20. The numbers are to comedic to be taken seriously. Next lets make our star like quagmire (a sex addicit). This limits our cast to past girlfriends and kids instead off 500+ unknown faces in a room.

Now I still wouldnt want to see this movie just yet, lets choose a genre! This movie tries to be dramatic, comedic, and ground breaking. Im going to choose drama. Let is follow the struggle of a sez addicit learning thay he is the father of 20 children and by meeting each of them learns that the single sex filled life is not what he wants. And much like the original movie lets have one child be disabillied this give Pratt a range. He can be serious with the kids, happy with his friends and romantic with his exes (he'll choose one).

In conclusion, theme, plot, and casting alone, there is no way to make this a 10/10 movie.

Summer movie challenge day 4

Day 4

(Careful for spoilers)

For my first weekend selection I chose to watch a trilogy. Any guessed? No? Do you even know me? Come on! Ok 3 guesses and the first 2 dont count. Do you wanna hint? Okay... 1985.... The importance of 2015.... and DeLorean. Thats right my favorite movie: Back to the futute part 1,2,3.

This review will be defending why it deserves a 10/10 for a series and not for each individual movie. Becuz honestly part 3 kinda blew in comparison to parts 1 and 2. But lets be honest a scratched Comero is still a pretty sweet car!

Disclosure. I do not like westerns so BTF3 ( back to the future 3) was difficult for me to enjoy.

Where do I begin?! No honestly where? 1985? 1955? 2015? Or 1885? Where in time is Doc Brown and Marty Mcfly? Ill tell you where! The history books! BTF is thought of as THE time travel movie. It is one of few which can fully justify time travel and its actions. You do have your (Dejvu, Hot Tub Time Machine, and of coarse austin powers) but these films dont give time travel justice. They fault in the transport system or the comedic results of changing an action in the past.

But that opinion. You want facts!

Fact! Steven Spielberg is involved with this movie.
Fact! When marty hits twin pines mall orignial trees(in 1955)  the proceeding future make the mall called "lone pine mall" now thats attention to detail!
Fact! Michael J Fox did BTF during the 80s classic family ties.
Fact! Hoverboards were attempted (and some what successfully created becuz of BTF2)
Last quick fact! The actress who plays martys Girlfriend was replaced in BTF2 by elizabeth shue. Consequently marty changed his girlfriend when he changed the past. (Talk about a two for one deal jk)

Now lets get back to the review.

Where it succeeds:
Christopher Lloyd (doc brown) was a classically trained actor and this role gave him the freedom to be serious, yet zany. When we first see doc brown he emerges from the DeLorean with enstein( the dog) and we dont believe for a second he is a Cooke like everyone else in town believes he is. Then he emerges in 1955 and you KNOW that guys crazy!

Marty mcfly is your average teen who faces the issue of gf, mean old teachers, lame parents, and cars. BTF made marty so relatable that mainy fans felt they were the ones traveling through time. He is a "slacker" who is just trying to live his life. The creaters show that we can control our future but we have to live in the NOW to do it.

References! Being from the future marty had some insight on event. Like who the mayor would be, when the clocktower would get struck by lightning, DARTH VADER!, and classic tv. In many time travel movies the character embraces their knowledge of the past to take advantage(picking lotto numbers) where as marty  tries to avoid changing as much as possible. Side note. You can thank marty for chuck berrys greatest hits.

So many quotes! Hello mcfly?! Do you know how many quotes there are?
" wait doc? U mean to tell me u built a time machine out of a delorean!?"
"Great scott!"
" we need to go back, back to the future!(point)"
" roads? Where we are going we dont need roads!" And many more.

The signs of a good movie is quoteablity and Rewatchablity. BTF has both.

Where it fails
No movie is perfect. Not even BTF. Story wise it doesnt fail at all, it does fail to leave the story closed. What do i mean by this? Movies that set themselves up for sqeuals can be a bit annoying if they dont happen. This film was a major risk do. Time travel was an untapped theme in films. So when they claim they need to go to the future it leads the audinece on.
(This fault is rectified by the sequals, the editing of what the "original" film is)

It also fails to please the audince. BTF3 does finish the story, but it has been proven that a fourth one would have worked. There is video game where marty goes to the 1920s and make doc brown a villian. This would have been awesome!( in the 1990s) now its to late.

More facts!
Fact! Huey lewis singer of "power of love" is actually in the film. Can u spot him? He is in the glasses during the rock audition.

Fact! The cubs win the world series in 2015.....right....

Fact! In BTF2 in a parallel time line marty see a Clint Eastwood movie which he blocks a bullet with a cast iron door. Marty would go on to do the very same in BTF3

BTF is on par with starwars as the most parodied movie

This was an 1980s hit not made by john hughes

Last quick fact! The DeLorean made by john DeLorean is a failed car.  But from the popularity of  BTF the cars still around can sell for close to a million dollars

The heated debate:

This movie has a few issues worth debating. Should there be a new one? Should there be a reboot? Should we make new DeLoreans with fluxcompasitors on them? And here are the answers. No, NEVER, and sure why not.

Why no BTF4 its the timing.after so many years it doesnt make sense to do it. The story was conplete and there is not need to make another. While fans would have liked to have one, its too late.

Why no reboot? Really? Im not gonna touch this one... okay fine.. its BTF!! You dont reboot things thag were awesome! You reboot kinda crap. I.e. fantastic four, cheaper by the dozen, spiderman, batman.

Final verdict:
Well im bias, but my final verdict is 15/10. It is such a good movie! This review is only a fraction of what needs to be discussed with this movie.

All I can do is say this.

I LOVE THIS MOVIE! Its a timeless classic which anyone, any age, can love.

I recommend you BUY. Not rent. Not watch at a friends house but BUY! If you do not like this movie, well lets be honest you'll love it. So Go now to walmart and buy the 25th anniversary. You wont regret it!

SUMMER MOVIE CHALLENGE! Day 3

DAY 3
(Careful for spoilers)

Today's movie is from 2006. It has a cute little girl and a van. Do you know what it is? Why its Little miss sunshine of coarse!

Once again another oscar movie... and once again im surprised. Interesting enough the most famous members of the cast are Young, Middle, and Old. Young-abigail breslin middle- Greg Kinnear and old- Alan Arkin. Yes Steve carrol is in the movie but his character could honestly have been written out. I did enjoy his performance as a suicidal homosexual genius but he was more support for Olive(abigail) then anything.

Memorable scenes/characters-

#1 The introduction. Coming into the movie, unknowingly that it was about the family, the movie starts with a young girl with ambitious dreams of being a beauty queen ( specially "little miss sunshine"). That is what we all knew the movie was about, but then the directors introduce each member of the family apart from one another. A druggy, a failure, a teenagers, these make olives life seem harsh. Bg allowing us to see they each member has their own struggles we know that this movie will have lire changing events.
Greg kennear is a motivational speaker who cant get ahead. Alan arkin is a angry drug addict and the brother and mom (no name actors) struggle with keeping the family together. I liked how they introduced characters Becuz it set the tone of the movie. It was not about the girl...it was about the family.

#2 The brother. Idk who this guy is, but he was one of the best characters. He takes a vow of silence intill he has achieved his goal of being an air fighter pilot, Which creates comedy throughout becuz of his well timed written mute messages. Another aspect of him is that he gives off the loving brother vibe. He is a gentle spirit who care for his sister, but he isnt supportive of her dream becuz of the stigma that "she not pretty." In the end there is an event which gives him a realization that the world isnt about going after your goals, its living in the moment and enjoying the journey till you have reached your goal.

#3 Greg Kinnear
He literally was born for this role. He is HARDCORE playing a dad role. Which suits him. He can be passionate, Loving, Protective, and dorky. He actually wears his flip phone on the outside of his belt! Total dork! But hey it was the role he was meant to play. As we can all recall another role he played he was the dork dad in Anchorman 2 as Vernonia's next husband with telepathic powers. Overall he was a great actor and a good character to guide a young girl to her dream.

Where it succeeds
Comedy+drama. This movie addressed the struggle of life and family. But in a light hearted way. There is a dinner scene where the family is ordering meals and olive wants waffles and alomode! ( and who wouldn't) well dad, being the dick he isn informs her that ice cream is not good for a pageant girl, which depresses her. luckily the rest of the family disagreed and tricked her into eating her ice cream. To top off that dreadful message about dieting young, our favorite brother blows a straw wrapper into dads face which was just prefect timing! (Loved that scene)

This movie also warms your heart. Remember that drug loving grandpa? well he has a second love, Olive. No matter what you think about grandpa, he always wants to make
Olive shine. He trains her to dance at the pageant and he is the first one to say  " eat your ice cream." He was te one character you wanted to see at the end of the film, but alas he was living life to its fullest at the end and his final moments were with olive, just the way he liked it.
Little Miss Sunshine also does well in showing that you are never alone in this world. With death, failure, or any pain; having a family can get you through it. I just like that this movie was bold enough to have a child be in this chaotic world all in a matter of 3 days.
The last thing it did well is showed that true Beauty is not what you see in a pageant. The goofy girl we love even more becuz she was doing what she loved. Sure it was awkward to watch but heck she was having a blast!

Where it failed
Very few faults. Overall a solid movie. To be critical I think that there should have been more development with olives school life. She seems like a loner but we cant fully understand why a loner wants to be in the spotlight. Idk im being picky.
It also fails to make all characters important. For instance steve carrol as the uncle was not NEEDED he was nice to have and helped other scenes make more sense ( pushing the van) but other than those he can be written out. Also the mom was there filling the family unit( mom, dad, child) not any significant role other wise.

(If you read this far) Bryan Cranston is in this! Breaking bad fans rejoice! His first serious role after malcom in the middle.

Oddities
I kid you not! In the pageant scene there is a fat woman who looks just like mama from honeybooboo.
This movie is national lampoons family vacation. Follow me here. There is the stand family with elderly person. There is a road trip to California. Someone/something dies. The father thinks he knows best. There is an odd uncle. The vehicle of transport is iconic and breaks down. lastly the family is closer for this adventure.

Final verdict:
This film was good. Not great. Not bad.  But good. It didnt leave me with alot of questions it didnt require me to watch it again to fill in blanks. It was just a solid movie. I give it a 8.5/10. Rewatchability ehhh. I recommend renting before buying. Without a doubt you will enjoy this lighthearted drama about family, but do you want to own it? Thats not my place to say...
(Feel free to leave suggestions for future reviews and comments to improve the choppy rants)

Summer Movie Challenge day 2!

Day 2
(Careful for spoilers)

Im will be reviewing a new movie 2014's Oscar nominee and winner!
Birdman: or ( the unexpected virture of ignorance)
For starters I knew one thing about this film before watching, it had Michael Keaton in it. Which in the 1980s was gold but now in 2015 who knows what he will bring. Will he may bring comedic joy like in the other guys or will he warm our hearts like in Mr. Mom.
Full disclosure: I confuse micahel keaton and kevin costner all the time. I have no idea why, but I do. So ya. That.

Oscar nominated, Birdman brings alot of stars but from different acting specialties. Zach Galifinakis: the goofball, Edward norton: the all around, and Emma Stone : the young female all around. Im not defining these actors and actress, what I am saying is birdman gave each actor a chance to show that they can be serious and dark.
The most powerful part of Birdman for me wasn't actually the story (becuz there are so many in one movie) it was the 1 shot style. Birdman seamlessly take the audience through the whole movie in 1 continuously moving shot. It is never clear that there are edited scenes, but when there are, it could have easily been a sped up shot which was originally 8 hours long (night to day) and no one could tell the difference.

Legnthy summary
As stated before there is not one story there are many. Our lead Riggian thomson (michael keaton) has one goal:  moving on in this world after his famed role "birdman". As we all know it it tough adapting to change, riggian has to deal with his career, his daughter, and for a short time possibly being a new father( or does he ;) ). He cant handle the change so he descends into madness having his previous role haunt him into rage. He must deal with this play (which btw is never clear to me what that play is about) being his magnum opus. If he fails THIS will be his legacy.

Personal thoughts
Okay. What? Seriously he is stoned right? You jumped off a building!? Which btw was predictable since edward norton told his daughter to do it twice before.
Even with our lead taking focus, all subsequent stories defer your attention(Early on). I personally enjoyed the BALLZ of edward norton. He truly made me believe that his character was a famous actor horndog. He is even bold enough to do a nude shot to show how he is in control of the show.
I dont normally do this but this movie needed more cursing! We have a character who is descending to madness, around real stuck up actors, and we are to believe that he has enough self control to curse the same amount as an action movie and not south park? I find it hard to believe....
Oh that ending...

Where it succeeds: the one shot. I love a one shot scene not so much a movie. But this time I was impressed! Also the acting. All actors kept their characters even while in the middle of time square walking half naked. CGI. Wow. Just wow. Was birdman real or what!? Seamless added to 1 shot this CGI puts avatar to shame (granted 5 years later).

Where it fails: Every scene with emma stone seems to linger and lag longer then it should. There are moments when it stares at her face for 5 whole seconds. Another failure is making me care. I was never invested in any character other than riggian. I understand he is the main character, but I would hope other great performances would make me care about the character and it didnt. Im going to be honest I didnt care so much that edward norton and emma stones balcony fun of "truth or dare" didnt keep me engaged,  In Fact! I was texting and making plans for breakfast while watching. It was just that dull.

There is much more to say about this film but ive got to make a verdict. (Possible edit)

Final Verdict: I give it a 8/10 with a "highly recommend buy"..... recommendation. Lol. This movie beautifully merged 1 shot acting with CGI without missing a bit. I honestly want to watch it again just to see what I may have missed. Dont watch it for the story...watch it for the acting and the directing. If you are an oscar fan (I am not) then you will want to watch this 2014 best picture which truely earned its place above the rest.
I know this review is choppy and ranty but this movie requires more evaluation then I am giving it.

Summer movie challenge!

On Facebook and twitter I am taking suggestions for movies to watch and review.

This being my first post I think I should get to choose which movie I watch.

So I chose "Die Hard"

Right out the bat this movie doesnt let you know what its about. For most movies thats a bad thing but this movie allows the audience to see a lighter side of the film before blowing your mind! This 1988 action film redefined what it meant to be an action movie. This is the first film (to my knowledge) that is set in Christmas and was not about chirstmas, presents, or children.

While there are alot of one liners ( yippie ki-yay mother F¥Ck€R, "I guess this is what a tv dinner feels like) that keep it light hearted yet intense. Heck! Die Hard was so good thay it created four....more...movies! 2 of which are good! Also it was so beloved that it is considered the best christmas movie of all time. It has been parodied a number of times, most notable it "the Cleveland shows" epsiode "die semi hard" which takes the movie down to an acturate and comical adaptation of Die hard.

A quick summery: John McClane a new york cop travels to california where his wife/ex wife works. While at a chirstmas party Hans Gruber (most notable villian of all time) brings his gang of 12 terrorist to rob the takagi company of 600+million. Unaware that Mcclane is a cop or in the building he finds his plans be ruined and evenually has to confront McClame himself.

Final Verdict: While not best Bruce Willis movie, this movie labeled him a action hero and has created ome of the most iconic movie franchises. I give it a 9/10. A good film that only faults in ending( no spoilers) and NEED for sqeuals. I highly recommend it. It is a good movie to watch when ypur have that mid summer christmas blues.
